If you wish to direct a domain name that you have to another domain or subdomain, one of the ways to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is pointed to. That way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the site that you have created, but it will also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that such a record set up for the main domain renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take you only a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted in your account from the Hepsia Control Panel offered with each plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added such a record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks in your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems a hard task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single semi-dedicated hosting plan that we offer, is quite simple to use. If you need to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you will have to do will be to select the domain name or subdomain you need, select the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then enter the value i.e. the domain address or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it's going to propagate around the globe. If you're not sure what you have to do, we have prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial concerning how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located in that same section of Hepsia. Naturally, you can also get in touch with us for assistance whenever you want.
